WORKING TOGETHER TO REVITALIZE OUR LANGUAGES
At present, the Six Nations Language Commission provides support for three Haudenosaunee languages: Cayuga, Mohawk and Onondaga. Over the last ten years SNLC has supported adult immersion language programs, elementary programs and daycare programs.
Currently, the SNLC supports the following three adult immersion programs.
Onkwawenna Kentyohkwa (Our Language Society) is a community-based organization that teaches Kanyen’keha (the “Mohawk” language) to adults on the Six Nations Grand River Territory near Brantford, Ontario.
Onkwawenna has had tremendous success with their efforts to create speakers of the Kanyen'keha language. They've also created an online program and a number of fantastic resources.

Dwadewayestah Gayogohono (We are all learning Cayuga) is a highly successful adult immersion Cayuga language learning program. In addition to helping adult learners explore language and culture, DG also has focussed on creating resources and transcribing recordings of speakers.

Gawenahwihse Onondagega is a new adult immersion program that has just finished their second year (as of June 2018). OG is working to implement the SNLC's program framework, which was inspired in part by the Onkwawenna Kentyohwa adult immersion program.
OG is off to a great start and has recently launched their website. Check out this article in the Two Row Times for a sneak peek at some of their activities!
